Press release n° 16 – October 9th, 2013
8 days until the Festival
Two big Russian troupes complete the fantastic cast of the “Special Anniversary Edition. Meanwhile the largest Circus organization in the world, “Ringling and Bros. – Barnum & Bailey Circus”, has discovered in the Festival’s guest star, Davis Vassallo, a rising star for its new upcoming productions.
The cast list of performers taking part at the “International Circus Festival – City of Latina” is completed with the final two competing numbers: Troupe Kolykhalov, from the Zapashny Brother’s Circus (Russia), will be presenting a horizontal bar number; Troupe Kovgar, from Rosgoscirk (Russia), will be presenting a bascule number. There is also the confirmation that rising star Davis Vassallo, a clown from the Latina area, will be flying to the USA shortly after his appearance at the “Special Anniversary Edition” of the Festival, where he will be joining the renowned Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. This is both a great honour and a great responsibility for Davis Vassallo, as he leaves the audiences at Latina to become a member of the cast of this truly great world-level Circus Company.
The Troupe Kolykhalov consists of 9 athletes from Russia who are representing the Circus of the Zapashny Brothers, run by one of Russia’s great Circus dynasties. This troupe presents an elegant “Horizontal Bar” number that deftly demonstrates how this apparatus of a classically ‘gymnastic’ nature can be adapted to produce a Circus routine. The apparatus they are using has been created “ad hoc” for this number, and the performers will be working at heights between 4 and 5 metres, and without safety wires.
The Troupe Kovgar consists of 11 performers from Russia who are representing Rosgoscirk, the large State Company which comprises 42 Circuses all over Russia. The Troupe presents a bascule number which will astound audiences with an amazing variety of acrobatic feats: using the bascule platform to be propelled into the air they will perform a series of somersaults, spins, and somersaults into a chair, accompanied by traditional Russian music, costumes and choreography.
