LATINA CIRCUS FESTIVAL/ COM. STAMPA N°5-N°6.
Press release n° 6 – July 22nd, 2013
Four new numbers enrich the cast of the 15th edition of the “International Circus Festival – City of Latina”, among them a “pickpocket” and a “robot”!
The production team of the “International Circus Festival – City of Latina” releases four more names of numbers to be included in this year’s competition. Along with more traditional Circus acts, we also find two unusual performances by artistes who promise to provide both humour and surprise.
As the international Circus world awaits news regarding this year’s “Special Anniversary Edition” numbers, the production team follows its usual method of periodically releasing the names of performers who have successfully undergone the careful selection process. We can now announce four more numbers to add to the four already announced: the aerial silks number of Natalia Demjen, trapezist Darya Vintilova from Ukraine, USA robot-dancer Mr. Fantastic, and “pickpocket” Zee Deneck from the Czech Republic.
Versatile Hungarian performer Natalia Demjen has fifteen years’ worth of training and experience in the artistic world: singing, acting, dance, violin and piano playing, aerial acrobatics and climbing are just a few of her many accomplishments. Natalia presents an “aerial silks” number, in which the performer is sustained by huge swathes of material as she executes her number. Her technical expertise is combined with elegant choreography in a number that evokes her native Hungary both by its choice of music and also by the unexpected use of a violin, which she plays during her aerial performance.
Darya Vintilova is a twenty-three-year-old performer born in Kiev in the Ukraine. She began her career at the age of six and initially trained at the National Circus School of Montreal, going on to work at Cirque du Soleil, for whom she has been working since 2011. Darya is presenting a seven-minute trapeze number: in the first part she works expertly with a fixed trapeze, and then goes on to conclude her number with a swinging trapeze, on which she executes a stunning display of technical virtuosity which includes e sequence of spins and somersaults.
for being a “popper”, that is a dancer whose movements resemble those of a robot. Mr. FantastiRobert Muraine, under the stage name of Mr. Fantastic, is well-known c’s performance consists of a five-minute piece of original choreography during which he displays his strong sense of rhythm as well as his evident skills as a contortionist: this number both amuses and surprises. Although Robert’s career is already well-established, he gained even greater popularity in 2009 whilst participating in the American TV show “So You Think You Can Dance?”.
Zee Deneck began his career as a juggler, and by the ‘90s had already had a number of successful appearances at Circus Festivals. For the last five years however, Zee Deneck has been specializing in a very unusual discipline: being a pickpocket! Passing through the unsuspecting audience, he manages to “steal” objects such as wallets, notebooks, items of clothing and other personal effects from people without them realizing it has happened. The humour of the number emerges when the performer restores the “stolen” objects to their rightful owners, to the astonishment and delight of the entire audience.
“CIRCUS EXPO” AND “CIRCUS-THEMED COFFEE MORNING” AT THE “SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY EDITION” OF THE INTERNATIONAL CIRCUS FESTIVAL – CITY OF LATINA. WE ARE ALREADY TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR THOSE WISHING TO TAKE PART AS EXHIBITORS OR SPEAKERS, WHO MAY APPLY FROM NOW UNTIL AUGUST 21ST.
“Circus Expo” is a space dedicated to the exhibition of circus-themed arts such as photography, painting, sculpture, models and similar, where people can display their works to the International public of the Festival. The fourth edition of “Circus Expo” will take place within the Festival’s foyer area from October 17th to 21st. The aim of this project is, as always, to present the many and varied facets of Circus culture and live performance in general through a number of different mediums, thus extending the cultural reach of the Festival to an ever-growing audience.
The “Circus-themed Coffee Morning” is a kind of workshop for ideas seated around coffee tables; visitors may enjoy a cup of coffee whilst appreciating the presentation of literary works of a number of authors who have been inspired by the rich and varied world of the Circus. There are many notable works available in Italy and around the world on this subject, from novels to narrative themes to poetry to dedicated printed journals. These works, frequently at the back of the shelf in bookshops, merit far more attention than they get from the general public. The International Circus Festival – City of Latina intends to continue in its commitment to helping promote Circus arts in all its forms by including the second edition of the “Circus-Themed Coffee Morning” in its programme, where authors may present their works.
INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS: Participation in our “Circus Expo” or “Circus-Themed Coffee Morning” is free, and does not cost anything for participants, and nor will there be any payment or reimbursement. “Circus Expo” will be set up on Wednesday October 16th, opened to the public on Thursday, October 17th, and officially opened in the presence of the authorities on Saturday, October 19th.
