LATINA CIRCUS FESTIVAL: PRESS RELEASE N° 13 , 2013
24 days until the Festival
Technology in the Circus: there will be a high-tech “Laser Show” at the “International Circus Festival – City of Latina”.
New numbers are still being added to the competition at Latina’s “Special Anniversary Edition” of the Festival: the cast continues to grow, and the Production team of the Festival announces three new numbers that have been added today, to further enrich the cast list of the shows that will take place from October 17th to 21st: the most technological number, the “Laser Show”, will be presented by Spanish Xtreme Laser, the most complicated and difficult discipline of all, the Russian Bar, will be presented by the Troupe Stynko, and the youngest soloist in this year’s cast, 15-year-old Tetyana Byelova, will perform a hand balance number.
“Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation” or, in other words, LASER: a device that emits a monochromatic, concentrated, coherent ray of light of an exceptional precision and luminosity. These two young Spanish performers, Santiago Ruiz de Retes and David Climent Yarwood, under the stage name Spanish Xtreme Laser, have transformed a refined piece of technology into a unique and surprising performance instrument. The Circus ring becomes a magical source of laser light which, diverted and ‘modelled’ by the hands of the two performers, reaches every point of the Big Top, creating an electrifying and intense atmosphere.
A long, strong, flexible bar, the strength of the two men who bear it on their shoulders, an artiste who executes somersaults whilst using the bar as a kind of trampoline: these are the prerequisites for a Russian Bar number which, in the opinion of experts, is one of the most challenging and dangerous disciplines in the Circus. The Russian bar number being presented by the Troupe Stynko is nothing short of breathtaking: these young Russian performers, who are representing the Russian State Circus Rosgoscirk, give a performance that will amaze even the most conversant of Circus watchers. Their two bars are initially used whimsically as slides, platforms, benches and even as skipping ropes in a choreographic presentation before going on to be used as trampolines: the flyer performs double somersaults and a triple backwards somersault, followed by two spectacular feats: a quadruple backwards somersault and triple somersaults in rapid succession.
Tetyana Byelova is the youngest solo performer at this year’s Festival. Although only 15, she has already performed in the world’s most famous Circus ring, at Monte-Carlo, where she appeared in the special “New Generation” event in 2013, winning the second prize. Tetyana Byelova, from the Ukraine, is presenting an elegant ‘hand balance’ number which is the result of years of training, and shows off her incredible flexibility and balancing skills, whilst at the same time displaying the freshness and charm of this youthful performer. On a technical note, the rotation of the structure on which Tetyana performs her hand balances is actuated by the artiste, not by an engine. The performance is set to the powerful and touching lyrical song “Caruso”, which was written by the late and much-loved Italian singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla, to whom this performance is also dedicated.

Press release n° 12 – Monday, September16th, 2013
Sensational news! “Cirque du Soleil” will be at Latina for the 15th edition of the International Circus Festival.
Simply sensational! One of the world’s largest Circus companies, “Cirque du Soleil”, shows its support for the Festival at Latina on its “Special Anniversary Edition”: one of the competing artists at this year’s Festival will be performing a fantastic “diabolo” number that comes to us directly from Soleil’s “Quidam” show. The number will be performed by a young artist from Taiwan, William Lin.
William Lin is a 24-year-old performer from Taiwan who started to practice the art of “diabolo” at the age of 14, becoming a specialist in the discipline: through his art, he bares his soul. William Lin’s European début was at the Circo Roncalli Tempodrom in Berlin in 2008. In 2013 he began his artistic career with Cirque du Soleil, performing his “diabolo” number for the touring cirque show “Quidam”, with which he will be touring all over Europe until early 2014. In his “diabolo” performance, William Lin combines superb technical skill with the excellence of style, musicality and choreographic brilliance that epitomizes all of Cirque du Soleil’s productions.
The official participation of Cirque du Soleil in the competition at the 15th edition of the “International Circus Festival – City of Latina” demonstrates, in a very real way, the status that this event has gained around the world, and in particular with the most significant ‘movers and shakers’ in the world of Circus productions.

LATINA CIRCUS FESTIVAL: PRESS RELEASE N°11.
Press release n° 11 – September 9th, 2013
The troupes aren’t big this year at the “International Circus Festival – City of Latina”: they’re huge!
Large troupes of performers have always been a big attraction for Circus fans. The past 14 editions of the Festival show us that 19 troupes have already won the biggest prize: the “Latina d’Oro”. The first two competing troupes to be announced for this “Special Anniversary Edition” of the Festival appear quite extraordinary, even to novice eyes: up to 14 artists in the ring together, performing acrobatics, icarian games, Cossack equestrianism, acrobatic horse-riding and being ‘meteors’! All this is coming to Latina courtesy of the Chinese troupe Tianjin and the Russian troupe Ekk.
The Tianjin Troupe comes from the People’s Republic of China. This far-eastern nation has a long and proud tradition of Circus Arts, which continues to draw the attention of new generations to the world of Circus training and performance. These 7 young performers present a fast-paced number that is based on the discipline of ‘meteors’, which consist of ropes with weights attached to either end. Meteors are spun and thrown in the air by the performers, almost reaching the summit of the big top, a spectacular display of expertise in control and precision by these Chinese performers that is sure to catch the attention of the audience.
Although they are constantly developing new techniques and disciplines, the big Tianjin Troupe from the People’s Republic of China is always working on traditional Chinese Circus skills, also present in their performance. The 14 artists in the ring present an “Icarian Games” number, in which performers are spun by their companions in a technically difficult example of perfect teamwork characterized by coordination and synchronization.
The Troupe Ekk, directed by Yakov Ekk, is participating in the Festival at Latina courtesy of the Great Moscow State Circus “Bolshoi”. In this “Cossack” number the Troupe Ekk epitomizes the relationship between man and horse, demonstrating the love that each of these Russian performers has for his animals. The Cossack atmosphere and traditions are evoked by carefully chosen music and costumes. The skill of the equestrian performers and the spectacular nature of this number are enhanced by the presence of dancers from the corps de ballet of the “Bolshoi Circus”.
The Troupe Ekk, directed by Yakov Ekk, as well as their “Cossack” number, presents a second equestrian number at the Festival, “jockeys”. In this particular artistic discipline the riders perform choreographed acrobatics and somersaults as their horses gallop around the ring, in a stunning display of synergy between man and horse. The horses, from the renowned Great Moscow State Circus “Bolshoi”, and their riders, are joined in this number by dancers from the corps de ballet of the “Bolshoi Circus”.
