LATINA CIRCUS FESTIVAL: PRESS RELEASE N°11.

Press release n° 11  – September 9th, 2013

The troupes aren’t big this year at the “International Circus Festival – City of Latina”: they’re huge!

Large troupes of performers have always been a big attraction for Circus fans. The past 14 editions of the Festival show us that 19 troupes have already won the biggest prize: the “Latina d’Oro”. The first two competing troupes to be announced for this “Special Anniversary Edition” of the Festival appear quite extraordinary, even to novice eyes: up to 14 artists in the ring together, performing acrobatics, icarian games, Cossack equestrianism, acrobatic horse-riding and being ‘meteors’! All this is coming to Latina courtesy of the Chinese troupe Tianjin and the Russian troupe Ekk.

The Tianjin Troupe comes from the People’s Republic of China. This far-eastern nation has a long and proud tradition of Circus Arts, which continues to draw the attention of new generations to the world of Circus training and performance. These 7 young performers present a fast-paced number that is based on the discipline of ‘meteors’, which consist of ropes with weights attached to either end. Meteors are spun and thrown in the air by the performers, almost reaching the summit of the big top, a spectacular display of expertise in control and precision by these Chinese performers that is sure to catch the attention of the audience.

Although they are constantly developing new techniques and disciplines, the big Tianjin Troupe from the People’s Republic of China is always working on traditional Chinese Circus skills, also present in their performance. The 14 artists in the ring present an “Icarian Games” number, in which performers are spun by their companions in a technically difficult example of perfect teamwork characterized by coordination and synchronization.

The Troupe Ekk, directed by Yakov Ekk, is participating in the Festival at Latina courtesy of the Great Moscow State Circus “Bolshoi”. In this “Cossack” number the Troupe Ekk epitomizes the relationship between man and horse, demonstrating the love that each of these Russian performers has for his animals. The Cossack atmosphere and traditions are evoked by carefully chosen music and costumes. The skill of the equestrian performers and the spectacular nature of this number are enhanced by the presence of dancers from the corps de ballet of the “Bolshoi Circus”.

The Troupe Ekk, directed by Yakov Ekk, as well as their “Cossack” number, presents a second equestrian number at the Festival, “jockeys”. In this particular artistic discipline the riders perform choreographed acrobatics and somersaults as their horses gallop around the ring, in a stunning display of synergy between man and horse. The horses, from the renowned Great Moscow State Circus “Bolshoi”, and their riders, are joined in this number by dancers from the corps de ballet of the “Bolshoi Circus”.
