FESTIVAL DE LATINA: PLETHORE DE TROUPES

Four big troupes complete the cast of the International Circus Festival.
With just two weeks to go until the opening night on Thursday, October 18th at 9pm, the cast of competing performers is complete: as well as Guest Star Vinicio Togni, there are 26 numbers in competition at the International Circus Festival – City of Latina this year. The performers come from 14 different countries: the United States of America, the Ukraine, Argentina, Ethiopia, Taiwan, Germany, Russia, France, the Czech Republic, Italy, Belarus, the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia, Colombia.

The acrobatic Troupe Dobrovitskiy is composed of two women and five men. These performers come from the renowned Russian State Circus Rosgoscirk. They are presenting an aerial cradle number, in which the actual trapeze is substituted by the arms of the throwers. Somersaults, throws and catches are executed without any safety lines or harnesses. The choreographic construction, costumes and music of this number underline the careful attention to detail which is typical of the traditions of the Russian Circus world.

The Gerlings is the name of the troupe from Colombia. These seven young artists perform a technically difficult and dangerous number on the high tightrope, which is set at a height of six metres: the Gerlings then execute a “seven-man pyramid” on the tightrope that takes the overall height of this number almost to the apex of the Big Top. The Gerlings manage to combine pathos with great concentration, whilst retaining the enthusiasm and colour of the countries of Latin America.

Contortionism is a special Circus discipline in which the body assumes unusual and ‘impossible’ positions. Although it is a fairly frequent Circus number, it is not often that we find a troupe of seven performers in a single contortionism number, like the Queen Sheba Girls from Ethiopia, the land from which humanity originated over 3 million years ago. Lots of training along with a natural predisposition and suppleness of the body allows the Queen Sheba Girls to bring this elegant and unusual number to the Festival.

The Godfathers is the name of the troupe from the Ukraine. All born between 1987 and 1989, Serhiy, Volodymyr, Maksim and Iurii are 4 young performers who specialize in acrobatics. They started their Circus careers in 2008 after completing their training in their country’s Academy of Sport. They present a number that combines banquine and verticalism skills, dressed as gangsters who create human pyramids in an exhibition of strength, balance and coordination.
